The Rewind Technique: Faster, gentler and just as effective as EMDR

If you've been searching for EMDR therapy, it's worth knowing about the Rewind Technique before you decide. I specialise in this evidence-based alternative, which many people find gentler and faster, often achieving results in just 2–3 sessions without needing to talk about what happened in detail.

Does Any Of This Sound Familiar?

  • You feel on edge or watchful even when you know you're safe, as if the danger is still close by.

  • Memories or flashbacks catch you off guard, pulling you back to moments you'd rather leave behind.

  • Waves of panic, fear, or physical dread arrive without warning and feel impossible to control.

  • You've gone numb or shut down, not because you're weak, but because it's the only way you've found to cope.

  • You feel stuck. Like everyone else is moving forward while you're still trapped in something that happened.

  • You're exhausted from carrying this, and part of you is quietly wondering if it will ever get better.

These are common responses to highly stressful and traumatic experiences occurring over a short or long period of time. But these don't have to stay your 'normal'; together we can help you get that sense of self back that might feel lost at the moment.

How I Can Help

Most people who come to me have already considered EMDR. Some have tried other therapies before, counselling, CBT, perhaps even previous trauma work, and found it either too intense, too slow, or simply didn't get them where they needed to be.

I specialise in a technique called the Rewind Technique; an evidence-based approach to trauma that is specifically designed to reduce the emotional intensity of a traumatic memory without requiring you to describe or relive what happened in detail.

Here's what that looks like in practice:

You won't be asked to recount your trauma in detail. The work happens through a structured guided imagery process. You remain in control throughout. Many clients describe the experience as surprisingly calm.

Results tend to come quickly. Most people I work with notice meaningful change within their first session, and complete their work in 2–3 sessions. Occasionally more are needed, I'll always be honest about what's realistic for your situation.

You'll understand what's happening to you. Part of our work together is helping your symptoms make sense. When you understand why your nervous system is responding the way it is, the experiences themselves become less frightening.

The goal is not ongoing therapy. It's to help you get your life back and then not need me anymore.

I've worked with hundreds of clients dealing with trauma from sexual violence, accidents, medical experiences, abuse, bereavement, and combat. Whatever brought you here, you'll be heard without judgment.

What Clients Say
These are real words from real people; many came to me sceptical having tried other therapies without success

"I had been to therapy sessions before I wasn’t holding out much hope as they hadn’t helped in the past so why would they now? My first session with Kieran was literally life changing. The trauma was replaced with happiness and I was given techniques to help me keep my emotions in check. There hasn’t been a day where I’ve felt useless, worthless and not good enough. My smile has been on my face because I am in such an amazing place that I haven’t been in for such a long time. If you are thinking of seeing Kieran, do it. It will be the best thing you ever did. He will change your life. Thank you so much for everything Kieran. You brought me back." PTSD from Physical & Emotional Abuse.

"I would like to say a huge thank you again. I have had trauma for so many years after treatment and thought it was going to be something I would have to learn to adapt too. You have made such a difference in my mental wellbeing I am so grateful for the opportunity to work through the big issues that were holding me down. I have recommended you many times since our sessions started and will continue to do so." PTSD from Cancer Treatment

"Kieran was brilliant and has helped me work through some of the hardest experiences of my life and deal with it in a healthy way whilst i felt in a welcome space and nom judgmental conversation" PTSD from Physical & Sexual Abuse

"Kieran was amazing from the first meeting and all the way through he made me feel very comfortable and made me feel seen for the first time in a long time. He helped me through everything and has pointed me in the right direction with various tools to help keep on the start and narrow. I would just like to thank Kieran as if it wasn't for the support I don't think I would have been around anymore. So from the bottom of my heart thank you." PTSD from Childhood Trauma

What Happens When You Reach Out

We start with a free 15-minute conversation; no paperwork, no pressure, no commitment. You can ask anything. I'll ask a few questions to understand what you're dealing with and give you a clear sense of how I work. By the end, you'll know whether it feels right.

Step 1: The Free Call

We'll begin by making sense of what's been happening for you, many clients tell me that finally having their experiences understood and explained is a turning point in itself. From there, we work at your pace using focused, evidence-based techniques, which may include the Rewind Technique when the time feels right. You won't be pushed to disclose anything that feels unsafe, and you won't be asked to relive what happened in detail. Most people complete their work within 2–4 sessions, sometimes fewer, though I'll always be honest about what's realistic for your situation.

Step 2: Your Sessions

The aim is for you to leave therapy feeling stable, clear, and in control, not dependent on it. Many of my clients go on to refer people they care about. That's the outcome I work toward every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to talk in detail about what happened?

Not necessarily. The focus is on reducing the impact trauma is having on you now, without repeatedly reliving painful experiences unless it feels helpful or necessary.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your experiences and goals, though the average is between 4-6 sessions.

Rewind is a gentle, non-invasive technique designed to reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories without needing to talk through distressing events in detail

What is the Rewind Technique?

Both are evidence-based trauma therapies, but the Rewind Technique doesn't require you to recount what happened in detail. EMDR typically involves revisiting traumatic memories directly, which some people find reactivating. The Rewind Technique uses a structured guided imagery process instead; I guide you through it, and most people find it gentler and faster

How is the Rewind technique different from EMDR?
